We're transporting 40 homeless dogs to largest adoption event to find "Homes for the Holidays"

On Wednesday, December 6th at 7:30 am, we're loading up 40 of our rescued pups and heading to Jacksonville, Florida for the country’s largest adoption event.

This adoption trip is just one part of our “Home for the Holidays” initiative, a goal set this November. We want to find a warm home for as many of our rescued pets as we can this holidays season. When our management team decided to rescue dogs from Hurricane Harvey this August, we knew it was going to be a challenge down the road. More than half of the dogs rescued had to be cured from heartworm disease, a fatal disease if left untreated, and are now coming available for adoption. The dogs who will make the voyage to the adoption event now have a second chance and a new beginning at life.

The trip comes after a record-breaking adoption event last Saturday at Baldwin Motors in Covington. A grant through ASPCA and Subaru allowed STHS to offer fee-waived adoptions. Over 20 of the rescued pets found new forever families! It was a very successful day and we couldn’t be happier for the 23 dogs who were adopted. We have some great momentum going! We’re now tuning all of our efforts to the upcoming trip to Florida!

The host of this Mega Pet Adoption Event, First Coast No More Homeless Pets, holds events like this one several times a year. People from around the country come to adopt both dogs and cats. The group has found homes for over 12,000 abandoned animals since 2012. St. Tammany Humane Society was invited to join last year where we adopted out 28 of our pups. We're planning for another successful event this year!

Please join St. Tammany Humane Society staff and volunteers Wednesday, December 6th at 7:30 am as they wish the group good luck on a life-changing trip to put homeless dogs into warm homes this holiday season!
