Northshore Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue and community veterinary clinic based in Covington, LA. As an independent, non-governmental charity, we receive no tax funding and rely entirely on the support of compassionate people like you to power our life-saving work.
Since 1953, we’ve been dedicated to helping neglected and abandoned animals across the Northshore region. Today, we’re proud to be one of Louisiana’s largest animal welfare organizations.
Alongside our no-kill rescue and full-service vet clinic, we offer life-enrichment programs like summer camps, Canine Cabbies, and our Shelter to Service Dog Program, all designed to promote animal wellbeing while making a meaningful impact in our community.
Thank you for all of your support!
Our Mission
To be the premier organization dedicated to enhancing and saving the lives of pets in the Northshore region through community engagements, adoption, spay and neuter programs, and sheltering.
Our Vision
To lay the foundation for a no-kill nation. To learn more about a no-kill nation, we suggest visiting No Kill Advocacy Center.
What We Do
Adoptions: Each year, we rescue, care for and find loving homes for homeless animals in our community.
Veterinary Care: Our community clinic provides excellent veterinary care to both our rescue pets and to beloved family pets. All funds raised through our clinic directly impact the care of the homeless animals of our rescue.
Foster: Our foster families open their homes to homeless animals who are too young, sick or scared to be immediately adopted.
Volunteer: Hundreds of volunteers take on a variety of tasks to help care for and promote our animals, assist administration, and represent NHS at community events, allowing more time for our staff to do their jobs efficiently.
Low-Cost Pet Health: Through grant and corporate partners, we are able to provide a variety of low-cost pet care to people in need. These include low cost spay/neuter opportunities, microchipping, vaccinations and more!
