We're Transporting 23+ "Flood Dogs" to FL for Mega-Adoption Event!

On Friday, December 16th at 5:00pm the St. Tammany Humane Society will take a leap of faith with 23 + homeless dogs and head to a Mega-Adoption Event eight hours away in Jacksonville, Florida. The adoption event, held by First Coast No More Homeless Pets, has helped find forever homes for over 12,000 dogs in the four years of its existence. The event is the largest adoption event in the country!

St. Tammany Humane Society rescued nearly 200 dogs from the devastating floods that hit Louisiana this August. While people have returned to their normal lives and the media has moved on, the no-kill shelter’s work still continues. “A large percentage of the dogs rescued were suffering from heartworms, a disease that if left untreated can be fatal. These dogs have undergone treatment and are just now searching for their forever homes at our facility,” says Scott Bernier, CEO of St. Tammany Humane Society.

A transport of this size and distance is a first for the shelter, but Bernier feels it is a great opportunity to give these “flood dogs” a second chance with a new family.

Two dedicated STHS staff along with two volunteers will pull the St. Tammany Humane Society trailer Friday afternoon and make the long drive to Jacksonville, Florida for Saturday morning. The adoption event, which takes place the entire weekend, will have over 1,000 adoptable puppies, kittens, dogs and cats from a variety of shelters and rescues. The dogs in search of their forever homes are Bass, Crash, Flood, Pumpkin, Scout, Harley, Michelle, Roux, Joker, Iberia, Shiner, Bruiser, Sherwood, Rumple, Carmen, Cheshire Cat, Flash, Steve, Gunner, Tugg, Hoo Shoo Too, Viper and Kung Pao.
