Watson Beats the Odds to Survive & is NOW up for Adoption!

Meet Sherlock and Watson, two very special kitties who defeated the odds and are officially up for adoption! After almost one month in recovery, both are now on the search for a second chance and a forever home to call their own.

Sherlock and Watson were surrendered to the St. Tammany Humane Society early this October after their owners realized they could no longer properly care for them.

Why do you ask?

Watson came into our veterinary clinic with an infected wound on his chest, infested with maggots (see image to the right.) Further examination also revealed another wound on his neck that contained a cuterebra, a parasite larva that infects the cat through their nasal passages and grows within their tissue before emerging as a fly.

And so the decision was made.

We would take ownership of Watson to provide the necessary care to his infections, ultimately saving his life. And what is Watson without his Sherlock? The owners decided they did not want to split the two and so Sherlock tagged along for the ride.

Watson’s wounds were cleaned and treated before Dr. Lisa Johnston performed surgery to remove the maggots and cuterebra. It was a success! Now after a month of healing, both Watson and Sherlock are waiting in Cat Cottage for a forever home!

Sherlock and Watson are both around six months in age. They are sweet, friendly and full of love! If you are interested in these two kitties, please contact our Adoption Team at (985) 892-7387 or email adoption@northshorehumane.org. If you are not looking for a cat at this time, please share.
