The Story of Katie

Katie was originally adopted from our shelter years ago for a playmate to a family’s puppy named Buddy. For many years both Buddy and Katie served as companion animals until suddenly, one day their adopted father committed suicide. It wasn’t until several days that Katie and Buddy were rescued from the house and brought back to STHS to be saved once again.  And while Buddy’s ending has become one we celebrate here around the shelter, Katie is still on search for her happy ever after!

In order to understand why we want so bad to find Katie a home, you must first know the new life of the infamous Buddy. Now here’s where the story gets good. After being returned to the shelter with Katie, Buddy quickly found his forever home with the Chotin family including dad Chotin, mom Chotin and daughter Chotin. For the first several nights Buddy would pace back and forth from one room to another as if trying to tell them something. After many nights of what the family thought was just an adjustment to the new home, father Chotin finally listened to Buddy and made his way to his daughter's room. Buddy had been pacing night after night to alert the family that their daughter was having seizures! The family was astonished; how could a shelter dog with no formal training know exactly what to do? The family quickly rushed to the doctor where they found out their daughter most likely had been having seizures for quite some time. Needless to say Buddy sleeps with little Chotin each and every night. She calls Buddy her guardian angel.

With an ending like the one of Buddy, everyone here at the humane society wants to see the same thing happen to sweet Katie. And for Katie, she’ll be happy just with a new home to call her own. Katie is a 7 year old Shepherd/Lab mix, completely housebroken and is great with other dogs. Quirky fact about Katie: She actually has a hoarding problem - with her food that is. Yup, that’s right. Katie loves to take her food and hide it for a midnight snack! Heck, us humans do that too!
