St. Tammany Humane Society Fixes Record Number of Cats

Friday, January 15th marked a record for the St. Tammany Humane Society and our fight to end homeless animals in our community. Our shelter hosts two "Spay Days" each year, in which members of the community are able to spay or neuter both domesticated or feral cats for a low cost of $10! Our veterinary clinic fixed 156 cats in just one business day, stopping the birth of hundreds of litters of kittens for 2016.

Most of us are aware that we, like most of the nation, suffer from pet overpopulation. Many of us wish to do the right thing by spaying or neutering not only our own animals, but many of the strays that are in our area as well. The problem: we can't always afford to do so. Spay Day is a way to ensure that members of our community CAN afford to do the right thing.

The day was made possible through a generous donation by a private foundation. We would also like to extend a thank you to our staff and volunteers who make these Spay Days possible. Without the hard work and dedication of our vets, vet techs and volunteers we would not be able to continue our no-kill vision. The next Spay Day will take place some time this Fall, right before mating season. They fill up fast so make sure to keep an eye out for updates.
