A Second Chance for Younique!

"When we finally got to her she was laying in the grass and had given up"

Younique is a one-year-old Great Pyrenees/Collie mix who was rescued Friday, December 23rd from the middle of the interstate around Carrollton, Texas. Jennifer Shiflett and her family were traveling to Mandeville to visit for the holidays when they spotted her in the median of the interstate. Younique had clearly been hit by a car. "When we finally got to her she was laying in the grass and had given up," said Jennifer. Younique made the journey along with the family straight to our veterinary clinic. An x-ray revealed both of her front legs had been fractured from the accident. We knew she needed immediate attention!

The St. Tammany Humane Society decided to take Younique under our wing and provide her with the veterinary care she so desperately needed. Fortunately, her left leg will heal with a splint, something we can do here at our facility. However, in order to save her right leg and avoid amputation, she needs orthopedic surgery performed at South Paws Veterinary Surgical Specialists.

Because of supporters like you, we were able to give the team at South Paws the go ahead on the surgery with high hopes we will be able to recover the costs. She is actually having the surgery today (Thursday!) The total cost of her medical care will be $2,500 - $3,000, a significant amount for our organization.

And through it all, Younique is still a very sweet girl. Even with two injured legs, she still wags her tail so excited to see company. She has a long road ahead of her but we are ready! Her experienced and loving foster home is waiting for her after today's surgery.

Please consider making tax-deductible, year-end donation toward this sweet girl's medical costs. Because of donors like you we are able to continue to help helpless animals like Younique!
