Our Longest Resident Finds Her Very Own Home!

Have you ever heard the saying, A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words? Well, this picture was worth a million!

As I was driving into work today I received a text from our Director of Shelter Operations, Janie Valle. Its was an update on Sue Sue's new home. The text read, "Sue Sue watching TV from her bed." And the picture to the right explains just how Ms. Sue Sue is doing in her new home.

It's true......Everyone does get a chance. And in our case Sue Sue just got her second chance!

We are so excited to announce our longest resident of the St. Tammany Humane Society has officially been adopted! Sue Sue came to the shelter approximately three years ago and has since been looking for the right home. Over the past few years Sue Sue was adopted and returned two times. Even though our kennel workers told Sue Sue her chance would come, she was beginning to lose all hope. That's when Mr. Michael Lausen walked into our shelter.

Mr. Lausen was passing through our neighborhood when he noticed the shelter. Having just lost his German Shepherd and best friend, he had no choice but to stop in. Before his current position,Mr. Lausen was a director of another humane society in Maryland as well as a K-9 unit of a sheriff's department. We knew this was going to be a perfect match! And it was just that simple. He walked in and immediately asked to see our longest resident and the rest is history!

We are so happy for the pair and wish them many long and happy days together!

Along with the happiness that comes from adoptions like this one, our organziation also incurs higher costs with longer residents. It's one of the drawbacks to supporting the no-kill culture. We take passion in what we do here at the St. Tammany Humane Society and caring for animals, even if it is for three years, is our top priority. Sue Sue is a true testament to the no-kill movement.
