Meet the Artist - 2016 Unleashed! Rescue Me

For over a year now, Mrs. Jane Schauer, Corporate Artist for Painting with a Twist and former Adoption Counselor of STHS, has been creating inspiring artwork for all of the St. Tammany Humane Society events. From Woofstock to Duck Derby and now Unleashed!, Jane is able to capture the essence of each fundraiser in her fun and exciting style. We thought it was time our supporters got to know the person behind these works of art!

A Baton Rouge native, Jane was introduced to both the animal and art community at a very young age. As a child, Jane competed in various dog shows and traveled the country with her family each summer to fly-fish. Her mother recalls Jane having a real knack for art as soon as she could hold a crayon. Pair her passion for art with her love for the outdoors and you could see why animals have always been her favorite subject matter. Jane commented in our interview, “I still have a lot of my sketchbooks from when I was young. They are filled with page after page of drawings of dogs and horses.”

After attending LSU for studio painting, Jane moved to Covington and landed a job with local painting studio, Painting with a Twist. Currently she is both an instructor and corporate artist for the company. She says her favorite part of the job is meeting people from class who were once uncertain about painting, but now have a confidence and passion to continue. Her position at Painting with a Twist is what also led Jane to the St. Tammany Humane Society. Jane worked as an adoption counselor at the shelter until her workload at PWAT became full-time.

Jane and her husband have five pets of their own including two pit bulls named BuddahMan and Suchita, a Colombian boa constrictor called Nadia, a Dumeril’s boa named Kahlil and a tarantula called Maynard!

Now-a-days, while Jane is not working, you can find her outside fishing, canoeing or interacting with our native reptiles. She also participates in outreach programs with the Louisiana Amphibian and Reptile Enthusiasts. She truly enjoys being able to educate people about how wonderful and beneficial snakes are to the environment, and that the only good snake is a live and healthy snake!

You can see and bid on her two original paintings at our Unleashed! Rescue Me Gala taking place September 24th at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club. More info on the event can be found HERE.

Jane also has a pet portrait business and is able to take commissions throughout the year. Her Facebook page can be viewed HERE.
