Help Improve our Volunteer Break Room after the Flood!

As many of you are aware, the St. Tammany Humane Society has taken in close to 200 dogs since the recent flooding. These dogs were rescued from flooded shelters in surrounding areas including Tangipahoa, Livingston, Vermillion and Lafayette parishes. Without a blink of an eye, humane society CEO made the decision to permanently keep these dogs ensuring they received the best care and would be placed in our Adoption Program. While all have begun the process to receive the necessary veterinary care, some are still waiting to be spayed/neutered while others wait for heartworm treatment. Their journey has only just begun.

This past Sunday our shelter held the first of two facility-wide “spay days” and fixed 44 of the rescued dogs. Some of the pups were actually adopted that day while the others are now waiting for the perfect home here in our kennels.

As you can imagine, not only has our staff and volunteers worked countless hours, our actual facility has too! In particular, our once Employee Break Room/Conference Room/ “Whatever else we could fit in” Room was quickly turned into a temporary veterinary clinic. Not only did each of the 200 dogs see a veterinarian in this room, there were also multiple techs and volunteer squeezed in. The room even served as a holding area for 5-10 dogs at any given time waiting to be picked up by their temporary foster family. It was the perfect spot, separate from our other adoptables, with air-conditioning and electricity!

Now that the water has receded and people have begun to go back to regular life, our staff is left with a break room that really took a beating. We ask for your help to replace the flooring and to purchase a new conference table (which broke in the move) so that this area can once again be used for it’s intended purpose. Because our staff deserves it! The approximate cost to replace the flooring is $2,000. Please consider donating by clicking HERE or on the link below. We can't thank the community enough for the continued support.
