This year's Duck Derby and Festival was highlighted by great music, food, children's games and DUCKS - lots of ducks! Community leaders from the Northshore were in attendance to support our organization. Covington and Mandeville Mayors were present as well as WWLTV Northshore Bureau Chief and St. Tammany Humane Society Board Member, Ashley Rodrigue. We'd also like to recognize TC from Triple U and Chrsitian Serpas for their time toward the event. Close to 4,000 rubber ducks were adopted to participate in the race. Six dogs were placed into new homes that day and thousands of dollars were raised for the animals that still reside in our shelter today.
Ms. Ava Heigle took home the $1,000 cash for top duck while the 2nd-6th place ducks are listed below:
- Top Duck and the winner of the $1,000 Ms. Ava Heigle
- 2nd Place Duck and the winner of the $1,000 in Whole Foods groceries – Kaci Woodall
- 3rd Place Duck and the winner of the fitness package from Pelican Athletic Club – Ms. Diane Herrin
- 4th Place Duck and the winner of the Nonna Randazzo’s Basket – Ms. Debbie Brooks
- 5th Place Duck and the winner of the Nonna Randazzo’s Basket – Ms. Daniele Palen
- 6th Place Duck and the winner of the Nonna Randazzo’s basket – Ms. Nanette Martin
We can't forget the real winners of this spectacular day. The 2016 Duck Derby assisted in finding homes for Nyko, Gracie, Pepper, Spiffy, Katie and Gumbo. Russ also left with owners of Camp Bow Wow who often help to find our adoptable pups a new home. Lastly, the fundraiser brought necessary funds for the current residents of the St. Tammany Humane Society.
