Spectacles’ Story:

On April of 2015 a skinny black and white pit bull mix just so happened to walk into the perfect of yards, the yard of the Medical Director of the St. Tammany Humane Society! The skinny stray soon made friends with his rescuer who brought him straight to our Veterinary Clinic to be examined. Upon examination, we concluded that this black goggled, young pit had heartworms. He was given the name Spectacles the Spectacular! However, so far, his story has not so spectacular.

The next two months Spectacles time was spent in treatment for his heartworm disease. He also didn’t waste any time making friends with our shelter staff. Everyone soon fell in love with Spectacles! Ten months after his first step into our shelter, Specs found a great home with a sister dog, and loving parents. One month later, the mother of his new owner became extremely ill; he had to relocate immediately to a different state. With no time to find the proper housing, he unfortunately had to return Spectacles. Specs was devastated; he didn’t know why he was returned. Did he do something wrong? Was it his fault? Sadly, Specs is not the only shelter dog who feels this way. It happens every day around the country and the world.

However, unlike some, Spectacles has a happy ending! After four months of wondering where he went wrong, Specs was spotted by an amazing young couple! He was so happy to meet them and their dog Hoot, who was also adopted two years prior from the St. Tammany Humane Society. Hoot and Spectacles were immediate friends!

Spectacles was adopted June 10th, 2016 finally making his story Spectacular!
