Most Memorable Adoption Days - August 2016 Floods

Now that we are looking back at the August floods of 2016, we’re realizing just how much work went into getting these 150 + dogs into forever homes! While each and every adoption is very special to us, there were a handful of very meaningful adoptions that took place directly because of the people we met from the disaster.

Here are some of most memorable adoptions and adoption days after the August floods.

Adoption Day #1

On August 20th, we held our first of many Adoption Days following the August floods of 2016. With the support of Petsmart in Mandeville, over 20 animals found their forever homes that day! This was a great way to kickoff the arrival of the Flood Dogs while opening some much-needed kennel space for the many dogs to come!

PAWS Chicago Rescue

On August 25th, the amazing woman of PAWS Chicago came to our aid and transported five of our Flood Dogs and nine cats to be placed into their adoption program.

Life is Better and Rocky Mountain Vet Rescue

Life is Better Rescue teamed up with Animal Planet’s Rocky Mountain Vet to help victims affected by the August flooding. They made their way to our facility on September 2nd and transported Ziggly, Port Vincent, Olly, Dooley and Dudley to Colorado to be placed into their adoption program!

Adoption Day #2

With a new wave of Flood Dogs coming up for adoption, we partnered again with Petsmart of Mandeville for our second adoption day! The event was held at our rescue September 8th and included live acoustic music, Sweet Daddy’s BBQ and snowballs from Kona Ice. Eight dogs found their forever homes and Kysek Extreme Cold made a generous donation of $2,500 to our disaster efforts!!!

Rouge Adoption!

A small group of ladies drove all the way from Delaware to drop of a truckload of donations collected for our rescued pups! Their compassion for our animals didn’t stop there! One lady by the name of Gloria adopted Flood Dog, Rouge! Nowadays Rouge is living a spoiled rotten life up North!!!! We couldn’t be happier for her!

The Ladies from Wisconsin

Following the August floods, the generosity and support of caring people never stopped! A group of ladies all the way from Wisconsin managed to fill an entire 18-wheeler full of much-needed supplies. They called the project “Fill the Truck for Pets’ Sake” and made their way to Louisiana the middle of October. They not only collaborated the largest donation transport we have ever seen, their truck driver even adopted one of our babies!

Florida Transport of 28 Flood Dogs

Our last large adoption effort came in December of 2016 when we were invited to a Mega-Adoption Event in Jacksonville, Florida put on by First Coast No More Homeless Pets. Because neither our staff not our adoption trailer had ever attempted a transport of this size and length, it was a huge leap of faith. Well, it paid off! All 28 Flood Dogs found their forever homes and we left the event with a completely empty trailer!!!!
