Jerri Blake: a dedicated employee who saves lives everyday!

Employee Highlight: Jerri Blake

Jerri Blake has not only been a loyal staff member of our rescue for nine years, she has directly helped in saving the lives of hundreds of dogs in our community from heartworm disease - and she does it humbly, never asking for recognition.

Jerri is originally from Louisiana but moved to Richmond, VA where she became a paramedic for many years. In 2004, she moved back to Covington and continued her career in the medical field. It wasn’t until 2008 that she began working in veterinary medicine as a surgery technician for St. Tammany Humane Society.

In 2010, Jerri took over the Heartworm Consultant position where she now guides clients through the entire process of treatment. She coordinates all appointments and is the clients’ “go to” person for concerns and/or questions. Her goal is to be there for the humans and their canines from the time they test positive until the time they test negative. Jerri not only helps dogs within our community with this deadly disease, she also assists in the treatment of our rescued pups. In her seven years in this position, Jerri has successfully helped treat over 535 dogs from heartworm disease. That's 76 lives saved each year!

What separates Jerri is her always positive attitude and personable characteristics. She is an employee you always want to work beside and just a genuinely good person. Furthermore, Jerri is dedicated to our organization and to our mission of saving lives.

Jerri says her favorite part of the job is actually the kitties! She spends a lot of time taking care of her heartworm babies, but secretly (or not so secretly) she loves loves loves the kittens.

Jerri has three pets of her own. All three (one dog and two kitties) were adopted from our rescue.

Something interesting about Jerri: Jerri loves licorice.
