St. Tammany Humane Society answered the call to help an injured male pup named Julio. Julio was suffering from two fractured back legs and was trapped underneath a hair salon in Bogalusa. There was no telling how long he had been trapped or how long it had been since his last meal. We had to act fast! STHS Adoptions Counselor, Dawn Valenzuela, along with two volunteers immediately jumped in our truck and headed to Bogalusa to save this poor guy! They successfully saved Julio from under the salon so he could be evaluated by an STHS veterinarian. Julio needed a plate in his back, left leg and a screw in the right. Our veterinary partners at Metairie Small Animal Hospital helped by deeply discounting the surgery but it’s still a whopping $1,800!
Julio is now safe and warm in the foster home of his rescuer. He is a very sweet and loving two-year-old Chihuahua mix. All he needed was a few people to believe his life was worth saving.
