Your Adoption Questions Answered!

Top three questions our Adoption Counselors are asked:

How much are your adoption fees?

Adoption fees for puppies who are six months or younger are $150. Fees for kittens who are six months or younger are $75. You "Pick Your Own Price" for dogs and cats over six months in age. The minimum is $50. Adopters are required to purchase at least one month of heartworm prevention at the time of the adoption. When you adopt an animal from St. Tammany Humane Society you are actually making a donation to save even more lives.

An Adoption Counselor can show you exactly what care went into your adopted pet and how much money was raised in order to care for them. The average cost per animal is $350 making the value of an adoption over $300.  

We are proud to offer a Seniors for Seniors Program where senior citizens (humans) can adopt senior citizen pets free of charge. See the age requirements and other benefits of this program HERE. 

What is your adoption process?

1. View our adoptable animals by coming to our facility or visiting our website. Once you have made your first choice, set up a meet and greet with our Adoption Counselors and your potential new pet. Set up a meet and greet by emailing adoption@northshorehumane.org

2. Fill out an application HERE. An Adoption Counselor will review your application by checking a veterinarian reference for current or past pets that reside(d) in the home.

3. If everything goes well, we will finish all paperwork and transfer the pet's information to your family! This takes approximately 30-45 minutes!

What kinds of animals do you have up for adoption?

We adopt dogs, cats, puppies and kittens into forever homes each day! You can actually fill out an application for an animal before they are even available for adoption. When you visit our adoption pages, you will see dogs and cats located at our facility and available now, animals in temporary foster homes and new arrivals not yet available. You can fill out an application on any animal you see on this page.
