OUR LONGEST RESIDENT FINDS HIS HOME: ALBANY!

During a disaster you don't think twice. You don't ask questions and you do everything in your power to help those in need. You use every morsel of your energy, every bit of compassion all to make dreams come true for those who deserve it.

That's the story of Albany.

Albany came to us when the devastating floods hit Louisiana August of 2016. He was one of 22 pups first rescued when Tangi Humane Society became completely submerged in the flood waters. After Albany's rescue, over 150 dogs followed.

For the last year and a half, Albany has watched family after family pass him by, multiple people have looked at him, turning their heads and moving on. He’s seen each of his fellow flood victims receive their second chance and a new family and while Albany was so excited for each of his friends, he also wanted what they had: a warm home and a family to call his own.

Then there came Abby…..

“From day one, I decided I wanted to be an adoption counselor at St. Tammany Humane Society. I made it my mission to start with our longest resident, Albany. He was stubborn and he was sassy, but I could see his true self - a huge, hard-headed teddy bear. Nobody wanted him, no matter how many pictures we posted, no matter how many times we shared his story.

One day I reached out to Paige at Off-Leash K9 training and low and behold, our strong man was off to training. He completed a two week training boot camp with Ms. Paige and was returned to our rescue with his new manners in hopes of better luck in finding forever.

Unfortunately, nothing changed. People still passed him up!

I worked harder. I updated his progress and his story, sat with him and talked to him every morning and evening before leaving. I was determined to show people the true Albany and I persistently posted about him on our Facebook page.

All of the hard work paid off! Albany’s new dad, John, came in specifically for him! He was talking to me for a bit about his life, and how he saw Albany’s story on Facebook over and over again. He said, “it must be fate.” Boy was he right. He and Albany were instantly drawn toward one another. They were perfect together.”

John did the paperwork and Albany now has his very own dad! He will ride next to him in the passenger side of his truck looking out of his own window, knowing that all of his waiting was worth it! Albany will never stay another night in our shelter, but rather endless nights in a comfy home. He will never be restricted to a kennel again, but will walk every day with his dad and have free reign of his own one acre, fenced-in yard.

As Abby said, “Congrats to my long time buddy and I hope he enjoys his new life with his new dad!”
