Below is the original plea from Boo Boo's rescuer: "I am in desperate need of some help. One December morning I was leaving for work when I saw something odd inside my trash can. It was only 28 degrees that morning so I was reluctant to get out of my car to see what was going on. However, my instinct made me go see exactly what this white “thing” was shaking like a plastic bag. To my utter shock it was a tiny, curled up, shivering puppy! It was…

Doge was a very unique case, one you just don't see too often. Doge came into our rescue with an infection caused by his testicles tightly wrapped in rubber bands. This practice is often used in the castration of livestock, but is never suggested for a dog! Needless to say Doge needed our help and he needed it fast! Doge received immediate veterinary care at our community clinic. After surgery he was ready for a temporary foster home where he…

Hi, it's Joker, remember me? The entertainer, the "handsome" guy that was in the front kennel. Ok ok... to be honest most of you remember me because I'm the dog that's been at the shelter for 281 days. If you don't mind I would like to tell you a little bit about how I got there and my journey to where I am now. I came from another shelter during the flood a few months back. They called us "The Flood Dogs." You could say we were pretty famous…

Thomas Swanton may be your everyday Pizza Hut delivery driver, but little did he know one of his deliveries would change this dog’s life forever. During one of his pizza deliveries, Thomas noticed a very pretty dog walking with a limp. Dear Supporter, My name is Savannah, and this is my story. Several months ago I was brought to St. Tammany Humane Society by a kind woman who found me roaming on the Lakefront cold, hungry, and alone. Because of supporters like you, STHS was able to rescue me and provide all of the love and care I needed to make an incredible transformation. As you can see from my photos, I was completely emaciated when I arrived. I weighed a shocking 30 pounds…

Joker originally came to St. Tammany Humane Society along with 200 other dogs rescued from the flooded waters in Louisiana August of 2016. Since that time, he has watched each and every one of his flood-mates find their forever homes. Family after family has approach his kennel, but for some reason have always turned away. Our staff suspects it may be because Joker does not “show” well in his kennel, a common problem in shelters all across the…

Not even one month after the devastating floods hit Louisiana August of 2016, six very special mommy dogs and their 50 newborn puppies needed our help! We didn't plan for this group of mothers, but when they came, we too received a lesson in love. Each of these poor mommy dogs suffered at the hands of uncaring humans, but through it all they each were amazing mothers to their babies and now wonderful dogs to their adopted families! The first…
