Answers to the recent rumors circulating in our community

Dear Supporters,

We are aware of the recent rumors circulating in our community and would like to answer your questions.

Yes, we recently were contacted by parish officials to potentially provide animal services to our parish in the event funding is no longer available. We understand that animal control services are critical to communities like St. Tammany. If it becomes necessary, we believe a private-public partnership would allow employees of the current parish shelter to continue their hard work for homeless animals in our community. We have not come to any formal agreements, we’re merely in a due diligence state.

Additionally, we are aware that our no-kill philosophy would come with the same challenges currently presented to animal services. There are many examples of successful no-kill communities across our country.

As stated above, having a successful animal control facility is necessary to the citizens of St. Tammany Parish and to the health and well-being of the animals they serve.

On behalf of the directors, staff and dedicated volunteers of our rescue, I would like to thank you for your continued support and patience during this time. North Shore Humane Society is dedicated to enhancing and saving the lives of pets in the Northshore region through education, spay and neuter initiatives, adoption and sheltering.

Sincerely,
