After 281 days in the shelter, Joker finds his forever home!

Hi, it's Joker, remember me?

The entertainer, the "handsome" guy that was in the front kennel. Ok ok... to be honest most of you remember me because I'm the dog that's been at the shelter for 281 days. If you don't mind I would like to tell you a little bit about how I got there and my journey to where I am now.

I came from another shelter during the flood a few months back. They called us "The Flood Dogs." You could say we were pretty famous back then. Since arriving at St. Tammany Humane Society, one by one I watched my friends get adopted into wonderful families. As hard as it was I never let that get me down.....I had a reputation to hold up. I'm the "Jokester." I had to keep my brave face on. Believe it or not, that was pretty easy with all the love and attention I received from everyone at the shelter. When I felt hopeless and worried my day would never come, I could always count on everyone there. They never gave up on me. They taught me love and how to trust.

I bet you didn't know I was one of the last "Flood Dogs." I know what your thinking... aww how sad I must have been. Well you see no matter how long, no matter how many days, weeks, or months it takes for your day to come.... we can't give up. We just wait for you to come. We will love you no matter how long it takes. When we are chosen, we aren't resentful, we're thankful.

I'm thankful!

Day after day watching families come and go, I am not resentful. They were choosing the right pet for them, just like when Dana (my new mom) came in last week and picked me! That's right! She picked me! She decided I am just right for her! The best part is I have a human sister and brother... Can you believe that? They even let me sleep in their beds. My dream came true. I am so thankful. Having my own family is the most wonderful thing in the world. Thank you to everyone who helped me through my journey. I now have a family and a forever home. A new journey begins and it's going to be a wonderful one.

I will leave you with one thought: please remember there is a perfect dog or cat in a shelter out there waiting for you to find them too.

With love,

The "Jokester"
