Every department here at the St. Tammany Humane Society is important. Whether it’s the Vet Team who takes care of our animals or the Adoption Counselors who assists in finding new homes, we all have an integral part in our overall mission - to save animals. There is one department, one very special department, that makes sacrifices every day. Sacrifices that some of us couldn’t even imagine. And that department is our Kennel Staff! Kennel…

This year's Duck Derby and Festival was highlighted by great music, food, children's games and DUCKS - lots of ducks! Community leaders from the Northshore were in attendance to support our organization. Covington and Mandeville Mayors were present as well as WWLTV Northshore Bureau Chief and St. Tammany Humane Society Board Member, Ashley Rodrigue. We'd also like to recognize TC from Triple U and Chrsitian Serpas for their time toward the event…

Spectacles found his forever home with STHS Alumni Hoot! Congratulations to Spectacles, his new parents, and his new brother. We are soooo happy for this adoption! Specs is beloved by this shelter and all of its staff. He could not have found a better home. Watch his amazing story here:  Spectacles’ Story: On April of 2015 a skinny black and white pit bull mix just so happened to walk into the perfect of yards, the yard of the Medical Director…

The St. Tammany Humane Society believes every dog and cat deserve a second chance. We strive to give the best health care to every animal who comes to us. Occasionally, one will need special treatment that exceeds our usual budget. But with the help of our community and caring people like you, we are able to cover the costs and get them the care they deserve. Meet Carlee Carlee was found by a good Samaritan on an old dirt road out in the country…

There's something special about walking alongside the kennels of the St. Tammany Humane Society. For most, the urge to use the restroom just means getting up from your desk and walking down a long, boring hallway. But for employees of the St. Tammany Humane Society, it means so much more. It means looking at each and every adorable face as you pass by. It means taking the time to say hello, approach a kennel and give a nice pat to an animal in…

At St. Tammany Humane Society, our individual supporters are a vital part of our organization's success. The events of yesterday's GiveNOLA Day prove just that.  This year was our shelter's first year participating in GiveNOLA. As most of you know the site was down for most of the day and it hurt the hundreds if not thousands of non-profits participating nationwide. With that said, we are happy to report that even with the day's tragedies, we…

On Friday, April 8 the staff of St. Tammany Humane Society was greeted by the original founder of the now 63-year-old shelter. Ms. Holly Reynolds stopped by with her Schnauzer, Allie, to get annual vaccinations and see the shelter for the first time in decades. "It's not every day you get to meet the creator of the organization you work for," said St. Tammany Humane Society CEO, Scott Bernier. "I can only hope the organization she saw this week…

Today marked a milestone for two shelter pups from the St. Tammany Humane Society. Purebred Doberman, Piglet, finally went home with her new family after months of barely holding on to life. Today she was healthy enough and cleared to go home with the Carey family who have patiently been waiting for her! And for the other shelter pup, a pitbull named Charlie, he along with our dedicated veterinary staff took a chance to save her life, and it…

Pretty in Pink, Ms. Mamie Paisley, is the fashionista of the shelter. Her sweet personality and demeanor do not tell the "tail" of the long and scary life she has lead for the past eight years. Ms. Mamie came to us very recently after living her life trapped in a small kennel, used solely for breeding. She and another rescue Papi Chester didn't even know how to drink from a real water bowl! They were used to drinking from a rabbit water bottle;…

To some Jade is a beautiful green stone that aids people in support and love. It is said to help increase trustworthiness, find new love and bless whatever it touches! Rightfully named, the dog Jade is also beautiful, loving, tough and willing to build her trust in people and the world that has, up until recently, been so cruel to her. The story of Jade: A few months ago, we received a call from a local dog advocate with a hard case to…
