Meet Our Vet Staff

Dr. Estelle Felarise, Director of Veterinary Medicine & Services

Dr. Estelle graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.  She was born and raised “down the bayou” and has made Covington her home since 2005.  Equines originally stole her heart, but in 2009 she wanted to focus more on the family pet.  Dr Estelle began working for St. Tammany Humane Society full-time in 2010. She felt she could better serve her community by helping homeless animals at our rescue as well as citizens through our Community Vet Clinic.  She is a member of the LVMA, AVMA and Florida Parishes VMA.  Dr Estelle also spends her free time running the roads as a Baseball and Cheer mom.  She currently lives in Covington with her husband Perry, her two children Spencer and Sophie and her two fur babies Klohee and LuLu, both adopted from STHS.

Dr. Lisa Johnston, DVM

Dr. Johnston graduated from LSU Veterinary School in 1995, and henceforth, has dedicated the bulk of her professional life to the welfare of animals.  Her great compassion coupled with her medical expertise in treating both her long- time and new patients alike can be witnessed daily here at the Humane Society.

Dr. April Kelly, DVM

Dr. Kelly was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where her love for animals began. As a young child her closest companion was a chocolate, toy poodle lovingly named “Poodle.” Dr. Kelly attended Xavier University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology before attending the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation in 2009, Dr. Kelly and her family made the move to Colorado Springs where she practiced ER Medicine. Before making her way back home, like so many of us do, she stopped in Frederick, MD and expanded her experience to General Practice. Dr. Kelly joined our team in 2015 and became a Certified Acupuncturist the following year. Her additional expertise allows us to provided additional, all-natural medicine at our community clinic. Dr. Kelly currently resides in Slidell with her husband, their two children and a beta fish named Abby Fish.

Dr. Maria Delaup, DVM

Dr. Maria Delaup was born and raised in Sweden until she moved to the United States in 1996. Dr. Delaup studied at LSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated in 2006. She is also certified in acupuncture from the Chi Institute and has studied herbal medicine. Dr. Delaup practiced mixed animal before ending with dogs and cats here at the St. Tammany Humane Society. Dr. Delaup and her husband have four children all of the four-legged kind, including three herding-class pups: Rudy, Muttilda, Bookit and a miniature pony named Lily. In her free time Dr. Delaup enjoys agility (which she does with all of her dogs), running (her longest race was 53 miles) and riding (she does not have a riding horse at the moment.) And, like many of us here, her favorite part of the job is working with the animals!
